Bassin-Bleu, located in the Port-de-Paix Arrondissement in the Nord-Ouest department of Haiti, is a community with a population of approximately 33,926 as of 2003². The area is known for its natural beauty, including the famous waterfall/pond also called Bassin-Bleu, which is a main tourist attraction.
The community faces challenges typical of many Haitian communities, such as economic reliance on the diaspora and government neglect. However, local organizations like the Fondasyon Chance Lavie are actively working towards improving the lives of the citizens, particularly the impoverished ones. Their mission encompasses social, cultural, education, and environmental development, with a strong focus on education as a necessity, not a luxury, for the children of Bassin-Bleu.
The commune is divided into three sections: Laplate, Carreau-Daty, and Haut-Moustiques, each with its own geographical features like hills, plains, and plateaus⁴. These areas are in need of development, and the FCL are determined to take matters into their own hands to help put Bassin-Bleu on the map.
